I know gingerbread is a really old version of android, but I find this to work well for satnav and just general map browsing.

Download OsmAnd 1.9 from this website:

You can download the map(s) from the application, or you can manually download the map(s) you want from the site. The advantage to downloading maps from the site instead is, you bypass the limition of the amount of maps you can download via the app downloader.
