Is there anything that can be done to run the full north america on the nuvi 660? It has a 2gb limit I tried the canada&norder states on a sd card since it dont fit on internal storage, it only gives me 3 digit street names but the map shows so it doesn't work for anything no addresses. Am i missing something?? I removed the original garmin map from a long time ago is there a way to restore it if i cant make it work?

Try using this test map from the last known version without addressing issues on some older devices.

I think you can put a SD card in the 660...up to 4gb.

prosown12 has a device that can only read .img files up to 2GB ,it can use SD cards up to 32GB.

prosown12 also has a legacy device that has an issue with street address displaying incorrectly since the 2022 version.

I was hoping to get the .img files to put the maps on the device. This just seems to be the map files for Basecamp which Garmin lets you download directly anyway. Are the device files available? I have a Montana 700i.

My issue ending up being lack of storage space as maps have grown over the years. I removed some topo maps and was able to reinstall the City Navigator Maps in Garmin Express. I now have turn by turn navigation again. Garmin phone support pointed me towards the solution. The online support forum gave bad advice.

I would apreciate a little help, since this is my first time dealing with maps. I read all the topics around Nort America map updates.
My device is DRIVESMART 55 MT-S. I am from Europe, european version. Using Windows PC.
I would need these maps for my Canadian trip.

So I copyed "for PC" files around the folders (the usual path Garmin/maps was not there) until they were visible in Base Camp and Mapinstall showed the maps as available to load on card. I bought a new 32GB microSD and formated to fat32.
Whatever I do, when I plug the maps in device, it reboots, but then says that maps "are broken". Mapinstall shows no problems, finishes transfer as sucsessful.
I also tried downloading the gmapsupp file for Canada and after unraring copied directly to Garmin folder on microsd card. Same thing, the device reboots and after reboot says "maps are broken, unable to use".
What am I doing wrong? Thank you for your help.

Oh... so I am not doing anything wrong, but there is just no way to use this device in Canada? That´s a bummer, wish I knew that when I bought it. It was nowhere written that it is only Europe. And Garmin express gives me no option to buy original maps for US/CA, only shows option to buy speed cameras. Would rather even pay more for something else if I knew this before. Thank you, I didn´t find this post.

You buy from Garmin's website, but it is a one time download/SD card with NO updates and no additional features 109.99€

I would just buy a used North American version device from as low as 33.99€ like the 1 below and keep it for the next trip or sell it when my trip is over.

I am skipping the one time download, no thank you Garmin- I just don´t trust them, since from my device it doesn´t give it as an option + too expensive for no updates.
I will try with google maps for begiing, if it will prove problematic, for around 150€ I can buy a whole new device in Canada with lifetime updates and just keep it for next time or sell/give it to someone.
