can someone send me a working link for maps that will work on a tomtom xl, i need the latest or one that works for United Kingdom, thanks in advance.

Your XL is a Nav2 device but can use Nav3 map.
Look at TTActivator. You'll find "United_Kingdom_and_Republic_of_Ireland" (433,3Mb) 1170_13181 - nav3.
