Looking to update old TomTom One with UK and NI

Postby newtogps2019 » Fri Feb 13, 2026 11:24 am

Dear All,

I am wondering if I can update my old TomTom One. The first two letters of the serial number are PE and navcore 8.41. I currently have the below map installed which I believe is circa two years old. The last time I tried to update this device (circa September 2024) I was told on here that there were no more compatible maps for UK and Republic of Ireland. I may have access to a bigger memory chip floating around but that's a long shot.

My TomTom used to be EU however when I first ventured into updating it, the maps were so big I had to settle for UK which was fine by me. Having looked at the map compatibility chart for my device and nav core, 1165 maps are listed, however these are apparently for EU maps which will not fit the device.

On a side note, I'm a bit confused on the mapping charts and dates for these maps. 1165 is apparently new, 1070 is May 2021 yet my 1035 is much newer than 2021. I clicked on the old maps link: maps-v1xxx/old-map-archive-t7847.html and it only goes up to 1070, so how do we jump from 1070 to current 1165? Where are the maps in between? Any and all help very gratefully appreciated.

Yes, 1165 series maps are just being released now but the only meta codes we will have available will be for NAV3 devices. It is possible for you to use a NAV3 map on your device but they are a lot larger in size and you would have to change the navcore. This could be problematic so I would leave that for now.

The last series of NAV1/2 maps that we do have meta codes for is 1110 which was released in May 2023. By the way, your current 1035 series map was released in August 2019.
So if you update your current map with the 1110 replacement to it, it will be about a 4 years newer map that what you have now and it will be a straight forward process to update and is what I would recommend you do. With that in mind I have already downloaded that map for you which you can download on the following link:

Wow thank you very much.

In regards to my maps date awareness, I realise what I have done wrong now, when I went to the device to back it up before installing the map you kindly uploaded, I realised the map I actually have is United_Kingdom_and_Republic_of_Ireland_1105_11819

which is circa early 2023. I went to update the maps circa September 2024 at which point it failed. Someone suggested I buy a TomTom One Large and install E U maps on that, but when I purchased one on eBay someone gave me a different, much newer TomTom Go 2016 which TomTom allows me to update to new maps after registering with them, so I have been using that instead.

BTW how do I find the meta for this map you shared? I just scrolled through the first ten pages of meta sub and there's no 1010 listed. Is that just because it's old? When you say nav 1/2 do you mean core or device version? I have core 8.41 TIA.

NAV1/2 refers to the generation of the device...so a NAV1 is the first generation etc

It's an obvious thing to point out but you can find the meta codes for a particular series in the relevant meta code thread...1110 is here: topic23327.html

Thanks, on a google search it seems searching TomTom One provides a variety of different looking models. It seems I have fourth generation. I have N14644 on the serial on the back. I also have (4EE0.001.02).

Do I therefore just have to copy and paste the lot from the following entry on the link into a file and save as meta.txt?

38 9E E0 82 5A F3 2A 43 CC 87 D4 5A 77 27 4D 92 United_Kingdom_and_Republic_of_Ireland-103820.meta ; United_Kingdom_and_Republic_of_Ireland 1110_11954

For the sake of a few months I'm not sure this is worth the risk of potentially bricking it lol. Thanks anyway for your help.

No, your device is a NAV2...it's only NAV 1 & 2 devices that can be updated using Windows Explorer.

You won't brick it just with a simple map update but it's up to you.

You haven't said what activator you're using but it looks like your using FastActivate...if so, add the meta code above to meta.txt and rename the file to mymeta.txt, then put it into the root and activate the map

Thanks a lot, yes I am using fast activate, it's been a long time since I used it but I did make instructions at the time, I clicked option one about updating meta and then option 2 for patch maps, however it has not worked out, it tells me I have the following installed:

Voice(s):
data79.chk => .dct OK
data78.chk => .dct OK
data82.chk => .dct OK
data103.chk => .dct OK
Complete Map(s):
Incomplete Map(s):
United_Kingdom_and_Republic_of_Ireland-103820.meta => .dct ERROR

I don't understand where it's getting 103820 from because I had 1105 installed, unless this is from an old information file? I had copied into a meta.txt file the above meta from my previous post. TomTom says it can't use the maps installed. The maps I copied over are definitely the ones you kindly provided 1110

My instructions say this: Use the program TTActivator-v1.16 using the new meta.txt data file copied to the tomtom device root folder and copy and paste the meta.txt data into the folder containing TTactivator. Remove the older maps folder from the TomTom and copy the new maps folder in its place.Click on activate button in the program and then its set.
Download speed cams, only copy uk one into maps folder, run fastactivate and it will make a new file patching the maps.

I am not entirely sure I have the right program now owing to backup issues (old HDD went bad), the program has like 8 options listed, none of which have a button called "Activate". I recall there were two different programs, one was used for maps and the other speed cameras but I can't find any backup of them.

The problem with Fastactivate is that P33dro hasn't been actively maintaining Fastactivate for over a year now.
For several years now, I've been hosting the file for him, including the updates to the meta.txt file.
I haven't tested it yet, but if the links to my servers no longer work, you'll never get the correct meta.txt file. You can, however, retrieve it separately from my server, as it's located in the same folder as the speedcams. The file you get if it doesn't come from my servers is completely out of date. ftp://Speedcams_Meta.rar:Navitotal_Spee ... net:47474/

TTactivator is essentially the main replacement for patching and/or downloading maps and is actually recommended. However, I still use Fastactivator to generate metacodes with my TomTom Rider 550.

If, in the worst case scenario, you can't create the correct .dct file, send me your ttgo.bif file and I'll try to generate one for you of whichever map you need.

Ignore the 103820 as that is just an internal number that TomTom uses. The reason it won't activate is because you didn't rename the meta.txt to mymeta.txt as I said to do in my previous post or it was a formatting error.

Never mind, download the following FactActivate with updated mymeta.txt file > extract it to the root of your device > run FastActivate.exe from there and select option 2 to activate the map > job done.

Wow thank you very much, this worked great, I was able to copy and paste my speed cameras too, previous user link didn't work on that one.

I'm surprised it had to be called mymeta.txt, was this fixed into the activator software then? I had meta.txt already and used this same software a few years back. Anyway I've adjusted my notes so as not to get confused, if in the unlikely event they can be updated again in a couple of years to.

Have yourself a wonderful evening.

Hi, thanks however your link didn't work, are your speedcams for this exercise back from mid 2023 or are they up to date? TIA.

You need to instal WinSCP first before FTP will work

Speedcams date is 17-02-1026

The FastActivate help file (which nobody ever reads) says that if you want to include your own meta code, you need to rename the file to mymeta.txt.

Anyway, I'm glad it all works now.

What is your problem with WinSCP?
If it were that dangerous I wouldn’t be here anymore.
