I appears that some Meta codes for NAV2 devices have dried up - the most recent (for UK maps) seems to be for release 1130 (May 2024).
I believe it was reported that TomTom had blocked a back door route that had been allowing extraction of Meta codes. I suspect that as TomTom no longer supports map updates on older (NAV2) devices - there are almost no NAV2 compatible maps being supplied to customers. Is this the cause of lack of newer Meta codes? - Is there likely to be any resolution to this problem?

Been checking via Map Downloader in TTActivator and while the United_Kingdom_and_Northern_Ireland" map has no Meta codes more recent than 1130 (May 2024) - the "Europe_West" map (which includes the UK) has Meta codes up to and including 1165 (Feb 2026). This is for the NAV2 High Level-U (Light Green) maps for Navcore 9.x devices.

However the Europe_West map is over 5x the size of UK map and will not fit on the drive of my TomTom XXL device (only has a 2GB drive) without some tweaking. It is short by about 45MB - so not a lot. My solution substitute a UK only POI.DAT for the one that includes half of Europe - this saves over 200MB and still gives me all UK Points of Interest (which is all I need). Even having updated the Speed Camera data (which obviously now includes an additional 26 countries) I still have 148MB of free disk space.

Excellent job you did, but have you also considered this possibility a nav 3 map?

Not really sure if I can run a NAV3 map. I have two XXL- IQ routes devices - which are NAV2 - running Navcore v9.430 with patches for GL2_glgps_v9.541 to fix the date rollover issue. They only have 64MB of RAM and a 2GB SSD so are quite limited.

I'm a retired computer tech - but only know a limited amount about TomTom GPS software - all gained by trawling the forums here and elsewhere. Also appears that Europe_North is slightly smaller and would fit without tweaks and has Meta codes available.

I can't remember exactly which TomTom an acquaintance of mine had, certainly not the newest one, but I am pretty sure I put a Nav3 map on it, and I have done that quite a few times on a Nav2 device.
Give it a chance; you can always go back if you have a backup.

OK will give it a go. At first I was super cautious about messing with the TomTom's file system as I had no idea how different systems interacted - and what had to be kept matched together. But I now understand that you can copy map folders and delete them without interaction problems.

These old devices are many times easier to update than the subsequent versions.

I don't understand why TomTom releases maps for navcore 7.9 , but there are no meta codes.
I would undersdtand it if TomTom stops everything for 7.9 and older, but then why are there stil new maps.

I tried to buy an official map for 7.9 but that does not work. There seems to be a way to do it, but that did not work for me.
If someone else can, i wil be glad to split the cost and than share the metacode.

TomTom releases new maps which they sell to the public...if someone were to buy one through the official means, they would then be able to extract the meta code and share it with the community.

In the past someone did find a backdoor into TomTom's server and download all of the meta codes and share them with us but TomTom got wise to this and closed the backdoor.

I realise that everybody expects everything for free on the internet and the thought of actually paying for something fills you all with horror but if you want a specific map then this is what you will need to do.

I installed the NAV3 version of the UK map to my TomTom XXL (a NAV2 device) as suggested by @pe1agp earlier in this thread - and activated with TTActivator without any issues. Navigation all appears to be working fine and it even accepted the Mapsettings.cfg from the previous version - which saved me from re-entering all my Favourites and also appears to have included a road closure I had configured.

When I checked the Map Compatibility Chart (by Peter Himself) it did show a cryptic note about NAV3 (dark green maps) working with Navcore 9 systems - but doesn't make it clear you can install NAV3 maps on NAV2 devices - as long as you are running Navcore 9. Anyway it works and likely extends the life of my TomTom XXL devices.

As to the discussion above about map availability - as far as I am aware TomTom have removed any official route for acquiring maps for my devices (and most other older hardware) - they just say "no longer Supported". I suspect that once the larger maps will no longer fit on the smaller SSD Disks then they just block the whole map selection for those hardware devices to avoid support complaints. A complete Europe map will not fit on my 2GB Disk - but UK only fits with ease - but TomTom will not provide any maps for XXL devices. Anyway we now have a way around this issue - so all is great.

That is solved in a simple way, I have often used it for my Rider v2, but that has a special navcore.
On my old GO 910 always navcore 9.510 or 9.54
As long as codes can be generated, you can still use nav3 on the old device
