Nuvi 2599 - unable to use Garmin Express or MTP

I'm trying to update the maps on a Nuvi 2599 without success.

I can't even get the part number from the xml file.

Is there a way to find this from the unit itself? It powers on and work fine but no matter if I select one time MTP or permanent MTP it won't connect to my computer. My other Garmin nav connects first time so it's not the computer port, cable or garmin express software..

Thank you, but this doesn't seem to work. I've extracted the recovery files to my micro SD card, then boot from cold, and I was expecting to see the xml file on the sd card somewhere, but nothing is there?

To update your device manually go to the About page and find the unit ID.Send to me in a PM and I'll make you a garmindevice.xml to use as a "clone" to download all the files for this device.

Download using the clone and arrange and rename the files on the SD card as per the image.

Plug the SD card into your device, it's possible that some functions like Voice command might not work as they are meant to be on the device.

I had a Nuvi that connected to a PC with a cable when another Nuvi didn't. I tried a different cable & it worked with both. Ordinary & OTG (On The Go) cables look the same, but one has a resistor across two pins. If your cable leaks a tiny current across these pins, the Nuvi might go into driving mode & not MTP. Had me stumped until the second cable worked.
