Garmin Montana 600 new battery

Hi all,

I have a Garmin Montana 600, software version 7.60, with a close to dead original battery, but it does still charge and power the unit for 5-10 mins (battery 361-00053-00 from 2013).

I bought a new Garmin battery for the Alpha (battery: 361-00053-07 product code: 010-11654-11 from 2025) as the Montana 600 is unsupported and discontinued and firmware is no longer updated past 7.60.

The new Alpha battery fits and powered the Montana 600 unit but I have the message "Unsupported battery detected" and it will not charge when the unit is powered through the cradle or USB.

Does anyopne know if there is there a firmware restriction on the battery number? Can any firmware restriction be bypassed or will I have to find and constantly use an external charger for this battery?
