Garmin DriveAssist 51 LMT-S Boot loop

Postby tonik83 » Wed Jan 28, 2026 2:09 pm

Hi, I have this Garmin DriveAssist 51 LMT-S navigator, the model with the built-in rear camera. It basically stopped working out of the blue, or rather, when I try to start it, it displays the Garmin logo, then turns off and on again in an endless loop.

It seems to be slow;

CONNECTING TO THE PC WITH THE ORIGINAL CABLE IS NOT DETECTED.

I FOLLOWED A GUIDE ON THE INTERNET AND DISCONNECTED THE BATTERY, BUT NO ONE, THE SAME RESULT.

I NOTICED THAT THERE ARE 2 MICRO SD CARDS INSERTED, BUT EVEN REMOVING THEM DOESN'T MAKE ANY CHANGES.

Is it recoverable or should it be thrown away?

Try this to get your PC to see the device.

..Thanks so much for the guide.
I wanted to know why when I try to boot it into PC mode or recovery before I can connect it to the PC, it gives me a white screen, then Garmin on a black screen, and it does this endlessly. Until the battery died because it wouldn't even shut down.

I hope it's a battery problem. And that it can be recovered.
If I can I will insert a video of the problem.

I solved the problem by opening updater.exe. I just have to manage to put the Garmin into recovery mode which keeps booting me up... black screen and fast white screen... I can't stop it... in the meantime I ordered a new battery for a possible replacement.
