Postby gugutm » Thu Jul 07, 2016 10:14 am

Hi there

What is a difference between NT and NTU for example i know nt is new technologies , and ntu new technologies unicode , but i dont understand the purpose of it, what is the difference between them, as i.e. i got nuvi 55lm and i added in my sd card 2017.10 nt europe and everything works fine, but when i remove my sd card it says i got 2017.10 uk ntu so i am assume i need not NT europe but i need NTU europe , but where is the hint?

what is the problem let say if i use NT instead of NTU?

can anyone explained me this

many thanks

I will give a try according to my knowledge about it up to now! NT is a kind of zipping Technology that Garmin create in order to pack their file maps. NT support mainly Latin characters as far as i know on the index for addresses etc. NTU is a new technology again but support also other type of characters by different local languages.
The NTU is recognized mainly by new type of devices the old ones may face problems on the research of addresses and routes. But if you use a new device with only Latin may not realize any difference!

Garmin devices that support NTU cards
The "U" stands for Unicode and is only for Garmin devices that support it.
Even though there are some older devices in which the card is running, problems can still
come searching for addresses. Unicode maps can also display certain characters
as you come across in countries like eg. Greece or Poland.

The following Garmin models support the NTU cards:

Dakota 10/20
Dezl 560
Dezl 760
Etrex 20/30

You said twice the word Latin , so you trying to say there is no difference if i use normal nt or ntu, if i am using Latin language , but if i want to use let say Romanian, or Russian, language then i will have a problem , am i right ?

and now i just read holyhead answer to my question, so mainly its just for the language U was released and new devices, but if i am going to use NT in my NTU device which is Nuvi 55 there is no problem as well.????

Exactly! It concerns the usage of Unicode characters! A new device could use NT maps only without Unicode characters!
