Hi,

I have the same problem and i followed your steps. But i can't update the maps on my DNX5280BT.

When I put USB and click update, I recive message "The map update on the USB storage device is not compatible with the device".

On the USB did i made the map called 'garmin' and placed the gmapsupp.img in that map. But every time i receive the same message as above.

Can you pleace help me? I'm alrady trying to update mu DNX5280BT for 2 days.

Did you followed the procedure on the #2 post? Are you sure that your map is unlocked one? How many USB port exist on the back of your device? did you put it on the correct one? Did you pout the device in mass storage mode?
Usually one of the above is not correct followed!
Try to read all the previous post #2 #6 #16 you will notice that something is not done as it has too as our friend Capitano!

I repeat the procedure
2.You connect your USB in the back side of your device where are two USB ports on this one where it is writen USB (not ipod) and then you go to the menu put the device as massive storage it is starting reading the device take few seconds... if it is note recognised repeat again then you go to navigation mode go to Settings\System\About\Update Map and it will ask you if you want to continue say yes and it will take few minutes maybe 10-15. when finished take off your usb and should be ok if you want go to navigation settings\Map\About and see what map is installed.

Last product recommended to update by Kenwood/Garmin: 010-D1206-04 or KNA-SD18e

I receive the same message as other maps when updating "The map update on the USB storage device is not compatible with the device".

Sorry ! I dont know what is wrong with your device ! Did you tried to updated with the normal way for Kenwood devices as described before here?
Either the firmware need to be patched.

Hi,
I also got the error "The map update on the USB storage device is not compatible with the device" when trying to update my Kenwood DNX521DAB, I had tried downloading various different maps etc and still no joy. In the end, all I needed to do was to create blank files called 'gmapsupp.gma' and 'gmapsupp.unl' in the 'Garmin' folder of the USB stick and it all worked fine. Just thought I'd post this here in case it helps someone
