RB5 Uconnect touch 8.4N Map update needed

Postby hernanzy » Sun Nov 27, 2011 5:25 am

Hi there, i have a 2011 dodge journey that comes with the Uconnect 8.4N , that includes garmin navigation Inside.
comes with the 2011 maps installed, and I need to change those maps using a custom map set, or another city navigator (for southamerica), i was llooking arround how to make this update and the only thing I get it is to put a USB drive , with a garmin folder with the gmapprom.img inside, once I did that it starts to validate the map, and after 5 minutes it says that the new maps are not compatible with the system.
I tried using NT city navigator 2010 and it works, but I need to do it with the city navigator 2012 southamerica.
can anyone help me to find how to make this work , i mean how to bypass the not compatible maps.
thanks in advance!

Hello hernanzy, I have the same radio UCONNECT 8.4N in my dodge journey and I want to install the brazilian map,
how did u do it?

I cant find a usb drive in my uconnect... how did you find it? was it through an interface to unlock the dvd in movement?

I heard that navteq sells a dvd map update, and with this you may be able to install another map

thanks a lot

Gabriela

Hi Gabriela, seems that the inly way to install new maPs is by buying one from navtec. The only problem is that for this sustem (uconnect 8.4N)
They only sell for northamerica or europe.
I bought my uconnect 8.4N from a dealer in USA and installed in argentina.
Where did you adquiere yours?
Another way to install maps is using the usb that cams with the car
Between the seats inside the armrest, and plug a pen drive there with a map called gmapsupp.img , i didit and it works, the only problem is that
The system validates the map and if is not a us map it reject to update.
We need to bypass this, i know that a map from southamerica could work for both of us.
Lests keep in touch my email is [email protected]" target="_blank
As soo. As i found a workaround i will let you know.
Thanks

Hi, have you tried to burn a DVD with the gmapprom.img inside and use the dvd instead?

Dear Hernanzy
Could you please tell me where did you buy your 8.4" UConnect in the US ? I have a 2012 Freemont and it uses the same as the Journey uses, but it's almost impossible to find it to buy here in Brazil. Thanks, Best, Marcelo.

You can find it on a dealer from dodge

16501 South Dixie Highway
Miami, FL 33157, United States
dadelanddodgechryslerjeep.net

But you need to give a vin number that is a us car, if not they are not going to sell you the rb5 unit.

Or you can find it on ebay

Or you can find it in mexico here

But i still trying to find a way to change factory maps other than us maps.
In your case from brazil.
Hope it helps

The guy in Mexico says that it comes with Brazilian maps on it. What is this VIN number?

I have been doing some research and there's one thing we need to know in order to make the next step.
We need to know if the unit has a micro-SD card with the pre-installed maps.

I was told that's the way the maps are mounted at the factory. If somebody could open one of these units, we'll have the answer and the solution! :)

Has anyone been able to figure out what version of City Navigator works with the 8.4N ? Is it the City Navigator .40? If so, is the 2013 version for North America available yet?

For those who've been able to load an .img file onto a memory stick and load it, I've attained an img file of City Navigator North America 2013.30 and unlocked it, then loaded it into a folder called Garmin, and it just gives me an error message when I try to load it. Any reason for this (or does it need to be 2013.40 to work?)

Thanks so much!

On a side note, I did get North America 2013.40 (an unlocked version) and I still get an error message saying that it is unable to reflash when I plug the stick in. Any ideas?

You use a USB stick, but when you order an update Navteq for U-connect, it comes on DVD.
So I think the ideal solution would be to burn a DVD.
Attention also because there are several models of U-Connect: CTP2012 or CTP13.

My version :
City Navigator Europe NTU 2012.40 DR
Map+3D+P+OA CHRYS AOEM, Feb 12
