hey guys i have a tt xxl and wanted to download new maps because its been outdated for a while. i have no idea how to download and install them. the meta codes have confused me even more

Download & unzip: FastActivate.
Run Option 2 to patch the map & Option 3 to patch the navcore.

I own a TOMTOM XXL CLASSIC version with a map 900. In other words, a very old map.
I tried to install a new card downloaded but I do not know if it was chance or not but my GPS was blocked.
I went on vacation 15 days and it got stuck on the back (reboot continuously).
Being on the road, I pressed several seconds on / off button and then fell on a black screen (like in DOS mode at boot a computer), and no further action was possible.
I had to make a previous restore has my departure (with old card) in order to use my GPS again.

Someone he already experienced this problem?
Should I tried another version of card?

You can use any map that has a meta code available with your Navcore.

There has been no meta released for that map yet....you would have had more luck if you'd downloaded Western_Europe 950_6548 as per your original map

A map is not usable, unless it has a meta code listed here: [Please Register or Login to download file]

Unfortunately, the map Western Europe 950 6548 is too big for my TOMTOM. But I have made the place Maximum removing unnecessary files. I saw the map Central Europe 950 6492 has a META. Yet my tomtom does not validate.
I will try again

Put FastActivate.exe & a copy of your ttgo.bif file in the 6492 folder & run Option 2 to patch the map.

OK. it works now. Have you ever had a bug (blocking TOMTOM) following a navitotal update? The last time I tried once, on another site, the GPS is blocked on a driving holiday.
