Re: Guide to Binatone devices

I TRIED THIS, BECAUSE I HAD WRITTEN THIS DEVICE OFF AS, A WASTE OF MY TIME - So hence could live with it becoming a doorstop - Can You?

OK I reckon i'm less of a quick learner, than the fact that I actually couldnt be that bothered what happened to this device.
So in the day and a half that I had this b350 device (only loading when plugged) I figured that the mem card slot was crap, and hence not loading properly always.

on the 2gb SD card I made a empty folder "Backups" for backups
contents of BinatoneToolbox.rar at root of SD card
Another folder "SDMMC" containing SHELL.ini and MobileNavigator folder from Pri24BD.rar - streamlined getting rid of non english files and none compatible resolution files - added UK maps as guided) - bear with me I'll explain

Due to dodgy memory card jammed small amount of card behind SD card to force it to stick
this made BinatoneToolbox load straight away (obviously not a working solution, just needed for time being

Loaded Commander
in resident flash made back up of "maps" folder in flashdrive and "MobileNavigator.exe" in MobileNavigator folder
by selecting -> copying -> tree -> backupfolder (on SD card)
before deleting "maps" folder in resident flash and also "MobileNavigator.exe" in MobileNavigator folder

then copied contents of "SDMMC\MobileNavigator" folder on the SD Card (made previoulsy on computer - with igo primo 2.0 plus maps) to resident flash "MobileNavigator" folder - exited - restarted, without sd card navigation works fine, turned off 3d stuff etc in map settings - just gotta find a GPS signal

- Still wouldnt mind B350 B350-Rom-Files.zip (Does it matter if it was WIN CE5.0 or 6.0 with this)

Anyway - All good - done in a day and a half, and I don't drive

I would advise against flashing the rom files unless it's absolutely necessary. The original turbodog software is worse than rubbish and corrupts itself.

Hi,
I am new to this forum and am impressed with all the information that was available for this device, however I am unable to download the files at the start of this thread as the y no longer seem to be at the links.

I have a Binatone U435 4.3" screen. From navigating about on the unit I can verify that in Menu\Settings\About the software version is B.149521.TM435.F08. Also from connecting to my pc via usb I can see the device listed as Windows CE with three drives listed. One is un-named, one is DataFlash and the last is Network. Before I go to far with this and end up bricking it, can someone please advise how I find out which version of CE is on this device, 5 or 6. Also can someone confirm what is the best software to put on this and running which maps. From what I can gather, the most stable software seems to be iGo8, is there anyhwere else that I can obtain a guide on how to do this, and even better a location where I could obtain the required files.

Thanks in advance for reading and any help offered.

If it is a recent device then it'll be wince 6. iGO8 or iGO Primo is a good choice, you can find both in the iGO programmes sub forum.

You'll probably need to tweak it a bit to match your device, but that's easy...

Hi Fatboyfun,

Thank you for your reply dated Tue Apr 21, 2015 8:08 pm; my apologies, I was sent to work away for a week shortly after posting which has caused my delay in coming back to you.

Just to give as much info as I can, this unit has two maps loaded onto it, these are TomTom TO-EUR-GBR-*-2013.03 and TomTom TO-EUR-IRL-*-2013.03 (both Ver 2.21). The application that seems to utilize these is NDrive Ver 11.4.06 (35175) DI. I have downloaded something that is supposed to be Igo8 - 8.3.5.183522, but I'm not to sure about it to be honest. As requested, I will PM you.

Thanks again

Hi guys! It was quite long time since someone wrote in this thread but I hope Fatboyfun is still around, I really could use his help on this.
I got a S500 which it was working like a dream, till couple days before when I powered on and got stuck in boot screen. I think this was happened after a complete discharge of battery, but I am not 100% sure. I tried the reset button with or without sd card. (on card is Primo2). Strange thing: tried connect to PC, first times get a error like USB device not recognized but after 3 or 4 times windows sees it and after the message on display: charging on USB port will take longer, it started and run like new, from internal flash or sd card. Shut it down, restart, everything fine.
Next day: again same story, stuck in boot screen, connect to PC, after couple times is starting and running fine. It seems to be affected only if is switched off for couple hours. Till now I have done this for 5 or 6 times, same scenario.
Any idea where I should look, which files might be corrupted? I believe is something wrong in Windows, but where?
Thanks and sorry for this long story.

This sounds like a bad flash chip, if you see any messages like "Recover the hive partition" then it's the chip.

Could be when the device has been off for a while the data is corrupted

Thank you Fatboyfun for your replay. No, I haven't seen that message at all. So, is a dead end? There is something which I can try?
Thanks!
