Sys.txt thread, tips, tricks, Q&A

Postby nabi » Tue May 18, 2010 8:44 am

This is how it started. Post by PedroDaGR8

Well I decided to start trying to compile all of the settings for sys.txt in iGo8 that I could come across. Wow it ended up being a lot. Note this is only for iGo8, and not all settings will work in all builds of iGO8. There are an OBSCENE amount of sys.txt settings. I came across some really interesting ones along the way, such as the [rawdisplay] section. The known categories are:

UPDATED 3.23.09. I went through the threads and added a hole SLEW of new entries. List now with alphabetical goodness. Thanks to everyone who contributed. This list just gained I would say around 40 entries. Some entries appear in more than one place so keep your eye on that in the sys.txt (try to keep it to one appearance in the file). It took me around 4-5 hrs just to update.

These are the different settings that can be changed. a [color=Red]; means that iGo8 ignores what ever comes after it.[/color] Since I copied and pasted these, you will see some commands with a ; before it, this means the person I copied it from didn't want that command to run. If you want it to run, remove the ;. Also, you can add a comment after a command (so you remember what it does) by simply adding a ; then the comment. You will see this here and there in the code set. Also, if you know possible values for settings or new settings or categories. Please post and I will update this thread.

Also, these may apply to other areas (there is more than one config file, such as sytem.ini, but I think they all have equal priority.

how to make the 2D mode track up instead of north up?

2dheadup=1 or 0? for 8.3 to have follow direction in 2D- or could zoom out with no tilt in 3D mode :), using the lionedas modified gurjon skin it cycles through 2D 2Dfollow and 3D.

I found in the hp ipaq 310 original data.zip that has a hp_sagan.ini file that appears to be a sys.txt type file...

It is copied here for those that may be interested- this worked with older igo 8.0.?????

shutdown problem (1)

Postby nabi » Tue May 18, 2010 8:49 am

Tatnai wrote :

I have a HTC vogue running iGo8 8.3.1 w/ gurjon 5.6 skin, and I have the following problems that I think might be solved in the sys.txt

1. I have a problem where my iGo8 exits automatically. This happens if I am navigating powering via external power supply, and then disconnect the external power supply -> automatic shut down. There is no shutdown timer. Any suggestions?

is there any sys.txt to prevent the shutdown from even initiating, instead of just the shutdown timer when the power is unplugged (see prob #1 above)? Image
2. I've also noticed when I turn of the power on my phone while navigating by hitting the power button, when I turn the power back on, iGo8 gives me a countdown timer saying it will shut down. I think this will be fixed by the following changes.

[interface]
exit_on_restart=0
shutdown_time=0

Does shutdown_time set to 0 mean that it will not give a timer, and just hold on the shutdown screen? Or does this mean that it will shut down automatically? Hopefully this will not matter when exit_on_restart is set to 0.

3. When a freeway sign pops up while navigating, my view switches from 3D to 2D. It then sometimes switches back to 3D while the sign is still up, and sometimes after the sign goes away. I have used the "3D smartzoom settings (big lane)" in the Gurjon skin with no effect. Is there a sys.txt setting to prevent this from happening? I am currently going through my sys.txt and taking out all of the 3D and 2D settings to see if I have a conflict (backed if up first of course) but have scoured it before and seen none, will post back if this works.

Thanks a bunch all!

recommendation: add the following to sys.txt
[interface]
shutdown_time=10

it is the same command.
[interface]
shutdown_time=0 disables shutdown when external power is disconnected. any other values >0 & <10 is equal to those seconds.

I am currently going through my sys.txt and taking out all of the 3D and 2D settings to see if I have a conflict (backed if up first of course) but have scoured it before and seen none, will post back if this works.
recommendation: adjust your settings or turn off

You can set the view however you like then press & hold the indicated button. It'll give you a confirmation box to change the settings. The next time the view gets out of whack, press the indicated button and it will change to your preferred settings.

changing tilt angle

Postby nabi » Tue May 18, 2010 9:04 am

In my opinion you need to change the variables that rule the tilt angle. If you are using a skin, it's perhaps possible in the skin, otherwise in sys.txt you have to apply some lines. Which lines, I am not sure.

Try :

[interface]
defaulttilt3d=6000
autotilt=1
autotilt_minzoom3d=25
autotilt_maxzoom3d=3000

And then play a little with those figures untill you are satisfied with the result.

Do I need to customize my sys.txt si that the IGo 8.3.2.64029 will locate me in the US.

I hope you can reply tonight as I know you are probably busy. Thx.

If you are sure your gps is enabled (important!!) and working (also important!!) and your gps settings in iGO are O.K. (iGO can also find gps automatically) you could trys these lines:

[gps]
background_navigation=1
port=2
baud=38400
source="nmea"
disable_advanced=0
;default_latitude=48.857004
;default_longitude=2.294760

Of course fill in your port number and baudrate.
Remark the ";" is a comment-sign, meaning that line or instruction is ignored by iGO

changing the triangular cursor size

Postby nabi » Tue May 18, 2010 9:09 am

Change or add these lines under map section like this:

[map]
3d_scale_carmodel=1
3dcarsizemin=2500
3dcarsizemax=5000
3dcarsizemul=15000

That gives you a guidance arrow about half the default size. Take the numbers down if you want it smaller, rise the numbers when you want it bigger.

Nabi

drevaho added this on the subject:

Testing with a lot of measuring has giving the following result.

The following 5 lines in sys.txt has an influence on the size of the 3d arrow (and 3d car).

[map]
3d_scale_carmodel=
3dcarsizemin=
3dcarsizemax=
3dcarsizemul=

3d_scale_carmodel represents the mode how the size will change depending on the 3d map zooming.

3dcarsizemul is a percentage representing the size in proportion to the street width.
The maximum zoomed in street width is about 5600, wich represents a certain calculated maximum.
ex. 3dcardsizemul=5000 ==> size = 50% street width (and a maximum size = 2800.
ex. 3dcardsizemul=7500 ==> size = 75% street width (and a maximum size = 2800.
The default if not specified = +/-22000.

3d_scale_carmodel=0
The size changes within the whole zoom range, respecting the ratio defined by 3dcarsizemul.
Max zoomed in ==> very big, equals the calculated max size (3dcarsizemul).

Max zoomed out ==> very small (point). Can't be changed.
3dcarsizemin and 3dcarsizemax doesn't influence the size in this mode.

3d_scale_carmodel=1
The size is limited by a max and a min value and doesn't change by more zooming.
The ratio defined by 3dcarsizemul is respected in that zoom range.

3dcarsizemin defines the minimum size.
The smallest value of 3dcarsizemax and calculated size (3dcarsizemul) defines the maximum size.

Conclusion

3dcarsizemul defines the size in proportion to the street width,
except when the maximum or minimum value is reached in mode 1.

;3d_scale_carmodel=1 ; Default if not specified
;3dcarsizemin=3500 ; Default if not specified in mode 1, not used in mode 0
;3dcarsizemax=7000 ; Default if not specified in mode 1, not used in mode 0
;3dcarsizemul=22000 ; Default if not specified, xxx.xx % of 5600 = max in mode 0 (or mode 1)

To have Igo go straight to map on startup

Postby nabi » Tue May 18, 2010 9:11 am

To have Igo 8.3.1 go straight to map on startup
this works for me with iGO8.3.1.

Open DATA.ZIP

Browse to: ui_igo8/common/ui/start.ui

Open file start.ui with notepad

find phrase: else_run 'run sc_GoToStartState'

replace it with: else_run 'STATE st_NavigateMap'

save file.

You can't in iGO8.0.x

Found on another forum:
In iGO 8.3.x add this to sys.txt:

[roundaboutcam]
enabled=0
centery=50

This makes iGO treat roundabouts just like any other street.

this may be the most important tip !!

Postby nabi » Tue May 18, 2010 9:14 am

I decided to add the line:

[device]
mio c320

to my system.txt using the fixed data and branding zips from the crackers. I noticed that within the data.zip was a mioc320.ini file. Well, doing that bypasses the other stuff in the sys.txt. Like the other lines I have there. Instead the program reads from the data.zip using the .ini file provided within the fixed data.zip itself. I know this because I had stuff that used to work in the sys.txt before adding that line, like no ding, road signs, etc. So just an observation that if you want stuff you added to the sys.txt to work, then don't add the [device] line, or make sure that there isn't an .ini file within the data.zip for your device if you do add the line.

[3d_config]
;3D font scale.The smaller the number, the bigger the font.
;for the 480x272 resolution devices the best is 16 or 14
roadsign_lines_per_screen=14

IGO does not start up anymore?

Postby nabi » Tue May 18, 2010 9:23 am

The app="%SDCARD%/iGO8" line in the [folders] section tells iGO to find the exe in a folder named iGO8 on an sdcard. Is that where iGO is installed? If so, could be that %SDCARD% should be given a other name. Can you explore your device (sd in) to see what name the operating system gives to the sd? That name should replace the name "SDCARD" in the line and exactly!

(Sometimes it helps to delete both %)
