Which links exactly you mean the Basecamp you can downloaded from Garmin directly without problems and it will create also Mapsource!

I'm looking for Mapsource however I thought it needs to be patched before downloading?
I have a new garmin gps and want to add a new map to it...

You just need to download and install BaseCamp on your PC! Then you may install a map on your PC dowloaded from here! Do not need any patch just to unlock this map on the Mapsource onyour PC then you choose the area that you are interested for (country) and install the map on your device! Then you need again to unlock the new installed map before usage! Also it depends what device you have it could need to patch the firmware also!
