GUPDATE.GCD - ADVANCED HELP NEEDED ! :-) modifying / knowleg

Postby subuk » Wed Oct 16, 2013 5:06 pm

Hi guys,

there`s Garmin CTP13 in-dash mounted navigation on my Fiat Freemont (Dodge Journey).
There is no way to connect it to a PC as you connect Nuvi , so you can not download any missing files from the web, replace corrupted one or basically just make a secure copy of original data.

However there is a light in the tunnel:
You are able to enter the secret menu, which has a lot of hidden features that an avarage user should not be using ;)
One of those features is "File Manager" where you can perform basic operations on files, like copying, deleting, renaming etc ...
And here comes what this whole thread is about

What changes to make (if any) in gupdate.gcd in order to have the rest of 3 file sources active ?
No matter how I format my SD card or USB stcik they are always greyed out and not active.
You can access only 0: (Disk) which is internal Garmin storage.

Or maybe any changes are not necessary and only some file must be included on USB / SD ?
Maybe SD / USB must have certain label to be active ?
Maybe someone of you guys who`s good at coding is able to find some information about it in gupdate file ?
Maybe there`s a need to set them active somehow by editing gupdate ?

I opened the file fix HxD and searched for Unicode text strings "SD Card" and "USB Flash Drive" and they were found, but I have no expirience and knowlege to make any step forward :(

Below you find the original gupdate.gcd for my device

questions. do you have the sd card pushed in to the slot so it is active also? also, could you have moved the slide on the card so that it is only readable? just asking.
If it ain't broke don't fix it!

The SD card is obviously unlocked and writable. No matter what SD / USB (tried many file systems incl. EXT, different cluster sizes and so on) you plug in, only 0: (Disk) is active.
I think the answear might be hidden somewhere in gupdate file :-)

Is the SD-card formatted with FAT32?
If it will not be shown in device menu, I have no idea what to do. I don't think that any changes in gupdate.gcd can help.

Sure, as I mentioned I tried many file systems on each device, including FAT,FAT32,EXT2,EXT3,NTFS even with differenct cluster sizes. No go.
I think that somebody who`s been messing with gupdate a lot and is good at coding, may find some tip in gupdate file.

Is getting to the secret menu on the CTP13 different than the 12? Where do you press?

Navigation/Settings/System/About -> then press and hold the bottom right-hand corner of the dark screen - after about 7 seconds, the secret menu shows up

Thank you. I'll be switching from a CTP2012 to a 13 some time next week.

Is your traffic subscription information in the hidden menu or is that normally available in the Garmin menus?

deejai first of all: your NT mailbox is full - delete some messages, now I could not send you a PM.

Thanks for your effort and a try to resolve my problem, but this is what I got after reflashing with your custom gupdate.gcd

Image

Maybe alphanumeric sum has changed by editing the file and that`s why the file is refused by the system ?

I am open to any experiments, please carry on :045:

Hi Roman,

thanks for the link, but finally there`s nothing useful to be found on that kenwood forum.

Even the "draconian procedure" :highly_amused: will not work becuase there`s no MicroSD card reader in the headunit of CTP13, the memory is now soldered to the Garmins PCB :-(

Someone pleae activate the File Manager
