MIO M400 unlock without minishell

Postby BlueICE » Mon Jan 04, 2016 6:59 pm

hello,

I want to change my gps program from my device without a minishell is that is possible. I really don't need different shortcuts for gps programs, players, games, etc. I only need the method to change the program to another one. My device has the original shell plus program, which is a version of mireo, but i can't find maps anymore. the latest are 09.2013. It has only 64mb ram and no card slot, only 2gb of memory.
Any help will be greatly appreciate it. Thanks in advance.

With these Mio and Navman device's you need to be careful about unlocking them as the USB driver is loaded by the GPS software, and not Windows. Meaning if you just replace the default software you will lose all USB connectivity and it is a right pain to get it back (if you're lucky)

I would use the mio-moov.zip unlock or the Visual Shell by Dalanik, both will NOT boot into the application as you wanted.

Mio-mood.zip - [Please Register or Login to download file]

Dalanik's Visual Shell - mio-device-unlock-f140/visual-mio-unlock-shell-t1227.html

BTW I have a M400 and I use the mio-moov.zip unlock with iGO Primo 2 and all the bells and whistles.

First of all i want to thank you for your reply.

One additional question: What version of IGO PRIMO are you using, the downgraded one (which i can't seem to find a working link) or a full one? I don't want to end up with out of memory message if possible, so i better ask.
Regarding the unlock method i will go the safe way and use the same unlock you did.

I have found however one that in theory doesn't require a minishell:
In Program files (depending on the model MioMap or Navman folder is populated), in the one which is populated with files delete every folder or file, to remain only these 2 files: "appstartupsec.exe" and "appstartupsec.ini", put an igo kit there and rename the executable of the navigation program in MioMap.exe, Spirit.exe or SmartST_CE.exe, depending on a case to case basis. For some worked, other had problems with powering down the device, but after they deleted those 2 files, or other mistakes.

I'm still using Primo 2.0 because I don't use it that often these days and I'm too lazy to upgrade it.
Primo 2 runs perfectly, I've never had a problem.

On this device, if SmartST_CE isn't running then the device WILL go into a reboot loop as it thinks it's crashed and tries to recover, you can change this behaviour by editing one of the ini files, but it's so easy to get wrong.

Do a search and see the amount of users who've fallen into the trap.

I will try a slim down version of 2.4. and if it doesn't work i will change. oddly enough my device doesn't have a SmartST_CE.exe. I do have a SmartST_CE folder in the Navman directory with only one xml in it (which contain 7 device features from what i have deducted). There were 2 versions of this device, m400. I know that because in the year i had free upgrades and registered on mio website to update it, i didn't know which was so the first update was impossible, only when i have tried the second version. Not even to this day i don't know what were those 2 different. Probably at software level, one like mine had the miomap folder populated, and the other navman probably.

But better safe than sorry. I don't have the patience i once had, so i try not brick things only to have the "pleasure" to revive them. Thank you again.

Normally with the SmartST versions appstartupsec.exe looks for the window title of the GPS software, not the process, this is why you can't change the software.

After trying a few minishells, (some new ones i found on a site in my own country. don't want to post here but who needs ones more new that lanik's please send a pm. with google translate you will be fine) i have decided to try to change only the gps program without a minishell, just for fun. And success, i have managed by doing exactly what i have described above at post nr.3. I put tomtom on it, igo not yet. i still have to modify the sys for the paths in order for igo to work correctly (this model have no sd card slot), but so far everything is ok. the device is still visible by the computer, no problem there. Not sure that this will work for the version with the navman folder populated, but for mine with mio works great. But the most important thing is not to delete anything but the content (not the folder) of the navigation folder, minus those two files, and rename the exe from the new program as the old one.

I am trying to revive one M400 (somebody deleted almost everything from).
It is now in USB mode only, of course. Could somebody share internal memory backup?
Model: Mio Moov M400 (R09.00.0930.64M)

Thanks in advance

I realize this is a stale topic, but I have a MIO Moov bought new that has rather old Navman on it.
No newer releases of map data are available.

I really like the interface on the MIO compared to the Wince5-6 versions of Igo8/9 so was looking for a way to get new map data.

Is there such a thing to feed the Navman software?

If not, is there an IGO version that will work on a Moov?

Appreciate any sort of lead. Thanks to all.
