Compressed map size?

Wed Nov 30, 2016 9:54 am

Hello all,
I am wondering why in the map release for the same region, there are several versions with differents sizes.

For example

Carte Tomtom Europe West 980 7957 has a 685.82 MB
while

Carte Tomtom Europe West 980 7895 (A) has 1.22 GB

Are some date removed? Or does new Navcore integrate possibility to read compressed information? and that explains why maps are smaller?

I am definitely happy that these smaller maps exist, as my Tomtom does not have extra memory.

Congratulations anyway... just wondering how it works!

The reason is that TomTom release maps that have different features that more advanced devices/navcores can utilize.

Europe West 980 7957 = IQ Routes/Advanced Lane Guidance/House Numbering
Europe West 980 7895 = Advanced Speech Recognition/Cspeech/IQ Routes/Advanced Lane Guidance/House Numbering

See the Compatibilty Chart here for more information.

You're welcome

Obviously the roads remain exactly the same across the same map range...it's just the features that differ.
