Hey Guys,

I've got an old Navman S30 which I've stripped down and installed winCE. I've installed iGo 8 (8.3.5.183522) on it and it was working with some 2 year old maps. I've found a link on this site to new TomTom iGo Maps and I've followed the instructions to put the right files in the right places (maps-buildings-dem-poi-f82/where-put-map-related-files-igo-primo-t11326.html)

However when I double click on the iGo 8 icon it attempts to load and then crashes the complete winCE device.

Any ideas what I'm doing wrong?

Too much content? (Memory problem)

What katastrofe said should be the problem. The S30 has only 32MB ram. So only use the UK map and poi,s and no more and look if it start.

Delete the .gro files, they are 8.3.4 (IGO Amigo) files and won't do anything on 8.3.5
Speedcam? What speedcam? UK only? Europe? The latter is too big, stick to UK only.
No TTS possible on 32 MB, delete the .ph file
Truck driver? No? Delete the .ftr
You need the DEM? That takes up a lot of space too.

You don,t need those files for Igo8 so delete them

Tose file is only neeeded for TTS and you don,t have that so delete it.

Thank you so much for your help - I'm just looking to get this working for the UK - its a real basic one just for my elderly dad to use so the simple the better!

I'm planning on having 2 favourites set up on it - my house and his house, then it will just route between the 2 places. I don't really think he will even need speed cameras.... Unless I can choose Norfolk UK cameras only lol

What is DEM?

Demographic (.dem)

These are the Landscape, Hills and Valleys in the background of your map display.
These files don't change often and may be several years old.

Brilliant thank you - Whats the newest version of igo that my little S30 should be able to run? I found the list of releases etc but not sure on what will run on the S30?

The newest is 8.3.5.231128, I think. The difference with 183522 is minimal. no use upgrading.


Elaboration on the previous posts:
DEM works on IGO8, it shows nice landscape views in 3D but eats lots of power
If speedcams are not needed, delete the speedcam content completely!
In short : delete every superflouos file, they have no use - or are not used at all - but eat resources while the s30 is low on resources and power. Keep at least one map (basemap is not needed either for a working program), one voice, one language and one scheme.

As I come to think of it, when the device is meant for a older person - who drives less? - it could be worthwhile to not upgrade but to downgrade to a simpler stable IGO 8.3.2 version. Those versions will be (should be) less greedy as they don't offer features like truck routing and driver alerts and ... Those features, though not used, use resources as well.

Ah brilliant, ok, so for example in my audio folder I have voice_female & voice_male - so can I delete the male one if I only want female voices?
plus I see there are kph and mph sounds, so I can delete the kph (as we are mph)?

Also, my screen res is 320 x 240 so in data/ui_igo can I delete all folders except 320_240?

That is correct but to my knowlodge it make no difference because you don,t use them and not drain your memory (32MB ram)

My dad is only driving around 2000 miles per year (so very little) so I'm happy to run whatever will work the best - he is very strict with speeding (rarely even hits the speed, let alone over the limit), so I'm literally looking for something that says, turn left and turn right...
