I am really ashamed, but I simply can not find the solution online and I really need your help. I have a WinCE head unit running iGo Primo 2.4 (9.6.13.405512) without any skins. I managed to install speed camera warnings and they worked perfectly! Icons, annoying beeping, everything what you can imagine. Now one day my SD card got corrupted and I had to start everything from scratch.

This time I got one step further, I added 3D landscapes to my current maps and I was charmed. However I quickly realized something is missing... yes, the speed cameras. Situation is the same after I removed the .DEM file, switching back to the "original" config.

Facts:
- Speed camera databases (*.TXT, talking about 2 different versions) are reliable, downloaded from this site, were working before
- Before trying I always deleted all files under the speedcam folder, forcing Primo to rebuild the database
- After the first long startup, database files are rebuilt correctly, having reasonable sizes (~5 MB for full Europe)
- Satellite lock - check
- Alert Point settings available, Visual and Audio enabled for all kind of cameras
- Alert Points must work, as I get the icons and beeping for pedestrian crossings etc.

One important thing to add, I had no backup copy of my sys.txt, so I tried to re-create the same. It looks like this:



So... did any of you meet this issue before? Any ideas what I should check / try?

Two important questions: Do you speak of demo mode or real routing? Do ypu have satellite lock?

Normal routing mode (demo is disabled), and satellite lock was acquired already. I gave up yesterday so I went to sleep but this morning speedcams showed up again! I really have no clue what is happening. As a test I'm putting back the .DEM file, but I doubt that caused the issue.
Do you guys know about any log file what I could check to see what exactly is going on, just to know how to fix it?

I'd be interested in knowing how to have iGo create a logfile as well. When it crashes, it will create "crash.txt", but there is no log file (by default) when it doesn't crash (but you still have an issue that needs investigating).

I do remember seeing a sys.txt entry that will create a log file, but I can't remember what it was off of the top of my head and I've never tried it personally.

I do know that you can have it create an Application log file from within the settings menu (Settings->Log Collection->Application Usage Information ), but from what I remember, that is not a plain-text log file and requires some kind of application to read the file. I also don't know exactly what kind of information it logs or the detail level.

Sure would be nice to have a "general" system log file (plain text) to review when you have issues that don't cause a complete crash! Anyone know of a way?

Obviously, you need to replace the path to the path of your Primo directory. Not sure what the ::5 at the end does or means - I'm assuming it's some sort of "verbosity" level - haven't really messed with it at all yet.

EDIT: just looked through this logfile in detail. This will come in VERY handy to troubleshoot those little issues that you may run into with Primo! Will be invaluable in troubleshooting issues with new skins, missing files, corrupt files, TTS issues, etc.. Can't believe I didn't try this earlier! Very valuable info in this log. I wish I knew what the ::5 meant at the end. I wonder what can be specified between the colons as well. Anyone have any more info on this sys.txt entry?

Very strange that a .dem file would interfere with speedcams. That being said, there are usually multiple different "versions" of .dem files for each area. Maybe try a different dem file and see what happens. What country are we talking about here?

I see only one reason and that is lack of memory, showing when DEM and speedcam file are active. When DEM is loaded it eats memory.
Solution can be a smaller DEM or no DEM and skip all things that need memory. (how-to-f128/how-solve-memory-issues-t915.html)

If it is in fact a memory issue, I would expect that it would be identified in the log file - so make sure to try running with .dem and speedcams while the log file is active - that would probably tell you what's going on. The log file is pretty damn detailed. I've been running with logging enabled just for testing purposes. Also nice to see exactly how street names are coded in map files (in order to correct TTS-related issues) - the log file prints each street name as it's processed through the TTS engine.

To be completely honest I did not want to agree with you guys. Today however changed my view a little bit.

I went on my usual training and - as always if I have nothing else to do - I launched iGo on the head unit. Even after the first corner everything started to beep and flash - I did not even realize but the speedcams came back to life. With the 3D terrain installed and active.
I am a true beginner if it comes to iGo but I know some stuff on how Windows platform works. Maybe if I launched something else on the head unit and THEN iGo - bang, no memory to load the speedcams after DEM. A clean boot - only the shell and iGo running - it might work. This however still raises some questions in my mind...

- Is there anyone who was able to make a snapshot of iGo running, about how much memory it uses?
- I have 110 MB set as a limit in my sys.txt. Why I did not meet the usual "Out of memory" error if I decided to simply overload the software?
- Does iGo loads all files, or loads them only when it needs them? For example, I have 3D buildings and landmarks on the SD card, but disabled in Map View.

Loads everything at once. Not when it needs it. That's why we always talk about loading too much content when the nav is starting.

@chase21, what do you mean "Loads everything at once"? No system has enough memory to load everything at once. I know both of us still have old MIOs with only 64Mb and Primo runs fine on them.

You asked and I told you. If you don't believe me what can I say? Everything is loaded into RAM memory but does not become visual until required. This is why memory issues happen.

The questions is what is "everything"? Your "everything" cannot be everything!

"Everything" is every map related file (pbl-poi-3dc-3dl-dem-speedcam-fda-fpa-... did I forget some?) that is in the content folder and covers the area (how big is the area? I do not know) you are in. More files means more space as bigger files (e.g. DEM) do as well. Maybe you don't see why, but bigger file means more detail and that specific detail is wanted when/why?

Add the full language-voice (TTS?)-scheme-... files that you selected and also have a size. You must realize that again all those files require space and the more space is filled with these files (e.g. a bigger/smaller language file reflects in the translation, bigger voice file means better speech) compared to the total memory and work memory ...
Not to forget an amount of memory is used for loading/unloading when you drive. Certainly not to forget the program itself with the selected options and skins.
BTW, in the past IGO8 did load the full data.zip, thus every resolution. If Primo does the same, it might help to delete the unneeded resolution files in data.zip (and branding.zip if you have an extended one)
And finally (? or not?), what is running in the background that uses the very same memory? It may not be a program you started, but is started by the firmware, a GPS module or something.
