I have been given an old TT 1XL by a relative, which appears to have 500MB internal memory according to my PC. I have been using it with an 8GB SD card, having installed bootloader 5.5128 and it is fine for short journeys, but if I do a long journey, e.g. several hundred miles and have to deviate from the route, e.g. small diversion on motorway, in replanning the route, the TT reboots.

I have cleared the internal memory; reset the TT and have been testing it by setting a destination roughly 200 miles away (Holyhead) and then driving locally. As soon as it has to replan the route it reboots. If I plan a short local route but go a different way from that suggested by the TT it is OK.

The navcore and maps were obviously a clean install on the 8GB SD card. I haven't tried with the internal memory as that is too small for the maps I want, e,g, Europe.

The problem suggests to me that it runs out of memory when replanning, although the system says that it has 5 MB of ram free.

Edit: model of TT is a 4S00.007, if that helps.

First suggestion is to remove your personal data from your posting.
Second suggestion is to use one of my installers to get more free ram.
General suggestion is to make sure no POI's are shown on the map - they eat memory like rats.

Thanks. I thought that the personal data was just the serial, hence I doctored that. I'll doctor the unique id

I had not thought about POIs, slthough hardly any used. Good idea, I'll try that and the my installers, which I did not know existed.

I agree that you're running out of memory which will cause the device to reboot.

Downunder meant 'one of my installers' which can be found here.

Using a navcore with a built in swap file will sort out your problems

There is only success at the end - if not give it another try LOL

Back again: Improved with 9.510 for XL installed via UNCI.exe, but seemed to stall when replanning rather than previous reboot. (During replanning of the route the progress bar stopped, but TT still monitored driving speed and progress on map.

I did look at the skins, so perhaps I did not go back to the skin installed during installation, which may be optimum of the XL. Is there anywhere here or elsewhere with a description of the various skins and there uses, please? (I did look, but have not found anything!)

1. The skin installed during installation is just the default.
2. The skins are emulations that allow your unit to imitate different models. The X30 skin emulates a GO X30 unit.

The file for is is called "reskin" and is inside the folder "Skins".
You can edit it with a normal text editor.
The first two entries are a double and define the defaulte emulation in use - change these values to reflect the XL for example.

Back again, but this time resolved.

I looked at the contents of the SD card and noticed that the old system folder was there as well as the new system suggested above, so I decided upon a complete clean install. On completion I got the continual rebooting on start, but I cleared that with a paper clip and a push of the reset button.

I then tested on a drive this morning and had an expected amount of replanning, but no reset and restart. Excellent.

If you ever update the entire device again it will be much easier as you now know how to do it properly if something fails.
