A complete NOOB needs help on install

Postby thepastor » Tue Sep 13, 2016 4:05 pm

Sorry guys, my 1st post but i am a complete noob on all of this. I've tried to look @ the tutorials on here and the maps and have no clue what to do, i'm a bit simple sorry

Could someone please put bullet points down on how i can install tom tom for my car from a fresh SD card with my old 2011 car tom tom data (thats what it says the modified date is) on there
I presume i have to download Tom Tom home from the tom tom website, then update the SD card
I've tried this but comes up that i have no maps

I've downloaded the maps from this site:

"All New Maps 975/976"

For the UK, plus the postcodes
But how do i know which maps are right I just downloaded the latest
Now how do i make this all work, please in very simple terms
Also how do i get the voices working plus camera alerts - where can i get those from

PLEASE someone help i am completely & utterly lost :(

What is the trademark from the car and if I am right the nav is integrated into your Car.
It seems to me that you have a Carminat Device with navcore 9.844.634510.500.
If this is correct then you have live traffic to.
NC 9.844 to my knowledge means that you can only
buy a new map. It is not possible to use an alternative method.

Yep, Renault Carminat TomTom, live edition.
You can download and install maps but you NOT be able to activate them.

So there is no workaround then? Shame got the GPS for the car but its quite a few years out of date, don't really want to pay TT anything as have satnav on phone. Is it possible to install any other sat nav s/ware on there or other maps like open maps? if so how would i do this then?

Thanks guys for all the helpful replies, just upset that TT do this to their user base.

The previous version Renault Carminat TomTom can be updated with maps however one cannot update the navcore software.
The RCTT Live is protected from patching the navcore software.

Ons might expect RO Fins a convenient solution like that on this forum.
But it is nowhere to be found, so alas.

You might wait until TT comes with a maps sale in which they offer 30 or 40% discount.
Other then that you have no options.

Of course not the Cardata is from 2011 you said. What do you expect that after 5 years you get a mapupdate for free. And how long you can update the maps for free depend on Renault (not TomTom). So if you want to blame someone then it is Renault.
But what Razorblattor mentioned keep informed on the TT site and many times they offer one-year map update (4 maps a year) with 40 % discount.
