Install Primo2 on unlocked Navman iCN520

Postby jogodfrey » Fri Jul 24, 2015 10:16 am

Hi can anyone advise on how to install Primo2 on an unlocked Navman iCN520 on a platform of Win CE version 4.2?
Apologies if this is old but I have searched online and a lot of forums and links are dead.
Thanks for any help you can provide.
I have Igo - Primo 2.4.
Thanks again.
Regards
Jo

I believe this device only has 32mb of ram, so primo 2 won't work as it needs a minimum of 64mb, you are going to be stuck with igo 8 I'm afraid.

Hi Fatboy, yes I have Igo8, I think, somewhere in my files, I will try that...do you mean to run on the device drive?...I was going to run Primo2 off SD card but struggling to get shortcut to desktop.
Any instructions you could dig out for me.
Thanks for your help.

How do i get a shortcut on the desktop?

Open notepad on your PC and type...
"\My Flash Disk\Primo2\Primo2.exe" Which is the path to the executable on your device within quotes

Count all the characters 34 in the above example

Arrange the text like this...
34#"\My Flash Disk\Primo2\Primo2.exe"

Save the file as...

iGO Primo.lnk

That's LiNK not INK
Make sure it's iGO Primo.lnk and not iGO Primo.lnk.txt

Your PC will hide .lnk so you'll just have an icon called iGO Primo

If Primo is installed on a SD card then substitute Storage Card for My Flash Disk.

Copy this file to the...
Program Files\Unlock\Desktop folder to have it on your desktop OR Program Files\Unlock\Programs to have it in the Start menu.

Sometimes the Desktop and Programs folders are in the drive root!

Hi Fatboy, thanks for that help.
I did it using an SD card with just UK map on and it worked a treat.
I then tried another larger SD card with UK, France and Ireland maps on.
The device then flashed up that I had no space and there was a radio button asking me to create storage space for program space ( or something to that effect). Then I decided to delete the Navman folder from the device and it went into a loop with the USB sync.
I think it is something to do with deleting the AppStartupSec.exe file which was in the Navman folder with another folder called Shackleton. I reinstalled the backup folder (which I think I also deleted) that I had saved on my PC (thankfully) and it started again but no problem with storage space this time.
So it works fantastic!
You are a legend Fatboy..please accept my donation and thanks.
Hope I can contact you again 'cos I do like playing with these things. cheers.

Hi Fatboy,
I was being a bit presumptious and you are correct Primo2 will not run on unlocked iCN520 (not enough memory) it looks like it starts okay but when you try and get GPS and start it doesn't...it was 1am when I thought I'd cracked it, so got a bit too excited there!!
I am going to try and install iGO8 and see how I get on, I will try and uninstall Primo2 with help from Google and tell you how I got on.
Thanks for any advice.Regards

Hi Fatboy,
I have an iGO8 download which has two folders one called 2577 which has an autorun.exe in it along with an autorun_8.nng file.
The other folder is called iGO8 which has all the usual stuff -- content, defaults etc.
I put them on SD card and inserted into the device and using stylus tapped autorun.exe to install but error message came up saying could not find path.
Can you help...there was no iGO8.exe file which I was hoping for as I now would know how to create a shortcut to that from desktop.
Have I got a good iGO8 download or do you have one?
Any further help much appreciated.

Hi Fatboy,
I did install iGO8, all started okay (changed application.dat file to iGO8.exe file) but the device is not picking up a GPS signal and is stuck in London (UK)...I am in Liverpool (UK)!
I have done all the settings outside, left it for upto 20 mins. is there anything else I can do?
Could you also tell me if I get it running will it run truck maps???...that is my ultimate aim.
If IGo8 does not support Truck maps/profile is there ANY way Primo2 could work on a Navman iCN 520???

Add this to sys.txt (and make sure similar lines are NOT in sys.txt)
[gps]
port=2
baud=4800

These settings should fit your device.
For some reason, unknown to me, some devices starting procedure locks out the GPS hardware from other software, If that is the case on your Navman, I don't know. Let's hope not. And if, Fatboyfun might know a cure.

Truck maps do not exist. In Primo you can set a truck profile and use some truck specific files. In Igo you can't.
Your device can NOT run Primo.

Hi Fatboy, getting close but have been unable to check gps because when I loaded up it was saying my maps were outdated.
The ones I have installed are --- (COUNTRY)_83_HERE_2014.Q3_(141121)...are these correct?
Thanks for your help.

Hi Fatboy, unable to check GPS as I am still getting the error message " map files are outdated", I have files mentioned above (2014) and I have tried older maps 2010 but no joy.
Any advice?
Thanks

I've modded a couple of these and never had a problem with the GPS being locked out, BTW how did you unlock the device?

Katastrofe has given you the correct GPS settings for this device

From memory though I had to launch a script to kill some processes associated with the unlock I used and then start iGO for it to run without problems.

As you have a 2577 folder, you have downloaded a Windows mobile build, as this folder is used for starting applications on SD card entry for ARM based processors.

I would suggest another iGO8 download.

Hi Fatboy, I am still on the case (have been on hols)...can I just swap one igo8.exe file in the folder on the SD card for another or is that me being too simplistic..I will look for other igo8 downloads.
Cheers
