IGO 8 on Eonon GM5153

Postby navigatorbg » Fri Jul 25, 2014 10:20 am

Hi guys, I am complete newbie and desperately need some help with installing IGO8 on my recently purchased Eonon GM5153 with the following GPS specifications:
Operation System: Microsoft Windows CE.NET 6.0
CPU: SIRF atlas V——500 MHZ
SDRAM: 128MB
NAND FLASH: 128M
Map Storage Mode: Micro SD CARD (with a KUDOS 4G Micro Card)
GPS Model: SIRF V
Max Channels: 64
Sensitivity: -161Dbm
Cold Start: 38S
Warm Start: < 32 S
Hot Start: < 1 S
Max altitude: 18,000 M
Max velocity: 515 M/S
SD Card slot for updating maps: Yes
Setup the world time zone freely: Yes
Complete computerized turn by turn voice guidance: Yes
Support 2D/3D Map Views: Yes
Memory stores previous destinations: Yes
POI(Point of interest) Search Option: Automotive Service/Hotel/Eat & Drink/Shopping/Leisure Centre/Medical Services/Transport Information and so on

I have owned another Chinese GPS unit for a number of years (all it sais on the box is GPS Navigator) which came with IGO 8.3.4.142975 on a MSD card and I thought I'd be able to use the latter on the Eonon but unfortunately I got the error message "program application database cannot be found". Initially the igo.exe was within a folder called IGO8 but then I installed it within the root directory on a formatted SD and still the same message appeared).

Below is a copy of the crash log:

Current System time: "2014-07-23 23:44:29"

As a good start, reading is a good idea:
About error messages read here.
In addition, you can read this tutorial of "how to install iGO"

Another option:
You didn't told us if the new device came with a navigation application, and you just want to replace it with the iGo from your old device.

First rule is that the folder of the nav app and the exe file must be the same when replacing or upgrading it.
If there is no application with the device, the device should have the option to locate (within the menu) where the application is. Point it to the location where the igo is on the SDcard.

Anyway, this is a good chance to upgrade to iGO 8.3.5.

The location (as I read in the crash file) seems to be : \SDMMC\IGO8\
This would be an indication about what lines should be in sys.txt, that is IF needed.
When lines that somehow look like this :
[folders]
app=”%SDCARD%/iGO8”

just comment them out. Do that by putting a semicolon - that is a ; - in front of app=”%SDCARD%/iGO8” ==> ;app=”%SDCARD%/iGO8”
When that is working, that is all there is to be done. When not, then experimenting begins. SDCARD must be SDMMC of course, but with or without the %s, with "/" or with "\", with or without the "s, ...

And let me repeat once more that the error message "map file not found" does not point to maps missing but to the file igo.map (extension .map) that is only useful to programmers and missing in the free builds.

Thanks for the replies! When I used the semicolon in front of app="SDMMC/iGO8" the program started without any issues. The only problem now is that it cannot find any satellites (went to the GPS settings and changed port and baud but the result was still the same)!

I also tried filesupload100's suggestion to upgrade to iGO 8.3.5 - installed the files, used the semicolon again, the program started, found the satellites (full bar) but this time the resolution was not right (the application opened in the top left corner of the screen and took approx 1/4 of it! My unit is 800x480 and the sys file is showing resolution_dir="480_272" (there is no [rawdisplay])

Tried this already, but there must be sth else as well because the application is still within the top left corner, taking approx. 1/4 of the screen but inside the "small" window the object are large, hence I cannot see everything...

I also added [rawdisplay] screen_x=800 screen_y=480, but then I got error messages which lead me to replace the branding and data .zip folders and still got the same error message (FFUI ERROR). Now I'm stuck...

I managed to find the correct path by using a file manager (total commander). The only outstanding problem now seems to be the resolution... Below is a copy of the sys file. Any suggestions please (bearing in mind my previous posts...)?

Where did you get that sys.txt ??

Back to the beginning. The working copy !! Not the one that gives error after error. Just one thing: in data.zip/ui_igo8 should be a 800_480 folder!
Rename the "save" folder to "saveold". Rename "sys.txt" to "sys.txt.old".
Open notepad, copy and paste these lines (it's my 8.3.5 sys.txt) in notepad, and save as "sys.txt".

[interface]
vga=0
maxzoom2d=6000000
show_exit=1
shutdown_time=0 ;disables shutdown when external power is disconnected

[map]
2dheadup=1
3d_max_tiltlevel=9000
; next 4 influence the size of the cursor
; 3d_scale_carmodel=1
; 3dcarsizemin=1250
; 3dcarsizemax=2500
; 3dcarsizemul=7500

[roundaboutcam]
enabled=0
centery=20

[sound]
ding=0
queue_length=200
suspend_time=100

[3d_config]
;roadsign_lines_per_screen=12
disable_roadsign_navigation_mode=1 ;=0 balloon =1 in street

[debug]
no_extrapolation=0 ;estimate calculation when gps signal temporarily lost (tunnels etc)
compass_type=3 ;compass type can be 0,1,2,3
minimize_button = 0
disable_outlookpoi=1
skip_eula=1
show_pedestrian=1
show_oneway=1
show_speed_limit=1
bringtotop_afterresume=1
enable_roadsign=1
show_gps_pos=1
show_oneway_3d=1
show_lane_info=1
show_signpost=1
show_arrows_on_route=1
hnr=1

[Route]
hnr_ignored_missing_country_ids=*

[switchmap]
;changer="\Storagecard\iGO8\Extension\MapChanger\MapChanger.exe"
;1=",map_ta,\Storagecard\iGO8,\Storagecard\iGO8,"
;2=",map_nt,\Storagecard\iGO8,\Storagecard\iGO8,"
;3=",map_ot,\Storagecard\iGO8,\Storagecard\iGO8,"

[speedcam]
enable_at_startup=1
disable="_SUI", "_GER", "_AUT"

Got it? Restart your device and see if it works.
If changes are needed, they can always be made. The old sys.txt could be a reference but a sys.txt should not be too long. The old save folder is only useful as a reference for some possible details to look up, however, if it's polluted with old information, that is originally from any device before yours, it's useless to keep it.

Thanks nabi! The sys file is from the install in post 2 (filesupload100), I only changed the folder's path.
I followed your steps but got the following error when loading the application:
Failed to open file:
ui_igo8\960_544\loading.bmp
exiting application

"Failed to open file: ui_igo8\960_544\loading.bmp"? This message is typical on some Windows CE6 devices - due to device typical Windows CE. We had it in the past and on some we did get iGO to work, on others we had to use another build. When I remember correctly a 8.3.4 or a Primo. Not sure about that, since it must be at least 3 years ago.

Let's try to tell the EONON what resolution to use . Make sure these lines are in sys.txt:
[rawdisplay]
screen_x=800
screen_y=480
stretch=1

And delete the save folder every time until iGO works!!

That is strange! This indicates a complete screen resolution error.
Comment out all lines that point to a resolution and delete the save folder. Let iGO find out the screen resolution itself. By the way, are you sure the data.zip/ui_igo8 contains the and 800_4800 folder?
If that doesn't help, I consider Primo2.0

EDIT4: There seems to be some confusion about the sys.txt entries to make when the resolution is 800_480 so I'm adding this for your information.

This is what is supposed to go into the sys.txt after removing any entry referring to 480_272:

[interface]
resolution_dir="800_480"
vga=0

[rawdisplay]
highres=0
screen_x=800
screen_y=480
class="landscape"

Don't forget to delete the save folder. If you're still having problems then I would try Primo 2.4 below.

Primo 2.4
program-data-zip-branding-zip-license-f83/english-only-primo-t15581.html#p128645

BTW, that's my sys.txt but what do I know?
If it ain't broke don't fix it!
ALWAYS BACK-UP YOUR FILES/FOLDERS BEFORE MAKING EDITING CHANGES!

Please do NOT post any thanks. Simply press the hand icon with the "thumb up" which is the thank you button.

Amended sys file as above and it works! Thanks guys! Now adding maps and will test on the road ;-)
P.S. chas521, as the sys file is yours I assume the file I downloaded and unzipped is also being used by you - I noticed that the Data folder is also unzipped and that ui_igo8 exists not only within the zipped folders. Is this how it should stay?
