How to install GMAPSUPP.IMG maps on laptop? (Newbie Question

Postby Pepin » Sat Aug 07, 2010 1:17 pm

I have succesfully downloaded and installed Garmin Mobile PC software version 5.00.70g on my laptop, it runs through Franson GPS-Gate.

With KG15 generated the
GMAPSUPP.UNL
and
SW.UNL
file and put them in root of Mobile PC folder: C:\GarminMobilePC

Downloaded Australia map from link in Maps thread.

CNAUNZ2010.30unlocked

Inside I found the GMAPSUPP.IMG file and placed this in C:\GarminMobilePC and to be sure also in C:\Garmin\Maps

Had Map Source already installed previously in combination with nRoute and Shonky Maps. Followed the Map Source 6162 instalation instructions.

When running Mobile PC it works but does not show map
When running Map Source it works but only shows Shonky Maps
When running nRoute it works but only with Shonky Maps

Can't seem to install/find the Australia New Zealand maps (GMAPSUPP.IMG)...
What am I overlooking? What do I wrong?
How to use these maps with Map Source and Mobile PC?

Thanks,

Pepin

MobilePC use Image-Version of the maps like MobileXT and Garmin-devices.

For use in MapSource or nRoute you need a mapsource-version (also called DVD-version) of the map.

What did you write into GMAPSUPP.UNL file? You told us that you have a unlocked map, so you needn't gmapsupp.unl-file!

-OK, so I got the wrong version to use in MapSource and nRoute. But are these versions not also compatible with MobilePC? Than how do I get it recognized, working with MobilePC? I searched the threads but I do not see any instructions, maybe Moderator could create a How To for Newbies stickie? Sorry, if I overlooked anything.

-I wrote the code as given by KG1.5 just to make sure. I tried it before without the GMApSUPP.UNL as well.

Thanks

- I do have a GPS signal and it is shown and recognized in both nRoute and MobilePC, but no map to project the location on, I am floating in black space... at least I know my coordinates :D

- I am not familiar with gmapbmap.img and would not know what you mean, can you elaborate and give some idiot proof instructions? Sorry, but that is a newbie for you...

OK, this is solved. Thanks all... just for the next reader.... I should have known that the basemap is needed for it to work.

- Installed the basemap as well...
- Deleted the GMAPSUPP.UNL as the map was unlocked.

Working fine on laptop and mobile (WM6.1).

Thanks,
