Advice Garmin hiking GPS

Postby KnOeFz » Fri Jul 08, 2016 8:44 am

I'm looking for some advice on buying a Garmin GPS to take out hiking.
Until now I've used my android phone but I'm looking for something less vulnerable and with much better battery life.
I use the Open Street maps now with Orux map. I hope the Garmin pro maps are more detailled in woods and mountain areas.

I'm thinking of the e-trex touch series (maybe the etrex touch 35?) but not sure if they're outdated or what the difference is with the more expensive Oregon series like the 600t or Montana.

What is also important to me is the ability to put downloaded maps on the device that I 'find' on the internet. (not the OSM maps, but the pro maps from Garmin).
Can that be dome with all Garmin devices or only on specific series/models?

Help and info is much appreciated.

Thanks.

I bought the oregon 600. Maps I got work fine.
Not much response on my question though here.... was my question considered impolite on these boards??

The fact that there was not a lot of response means that maybe there not a lot of people with such kind of devices.Oregon is a good device you will enjoy it! If you need a map ask.
