Could not Uninstall Apps on Windows Ce 5.0

Hello forum,

I have an Unlocked Destinator GPS system and I have full access to its windows ce...
I tried to install some apps but there were not working, so i was going to uninstall them

Oh well... Control Panel, Remove Programs, Selected the program, tapped uninstall and...BAM!...

The following message appears...
"The program has not been removed because the following files are currently in use or are read-only. Please close all programs and run Remove Programs again."

Windows/(Name).Unload



It's a bit weird because neither the file .unload is on windows folder nor it's running (I checked it with resinfo's task manager in processes...

How could I remove it from the list and of course uninstall it completely?

Any Help would be appreciated!!!

I don't understand why you have a program on your GPS device and tried to use the computer to remove it. All you probably need to do is connect your device to your computer via a USB cable and delete the program from where it shows in My Computer.

I did not use any pc at all... all actions were done on pna device

Delete if from the device not the computer.

Use resinfo and see if it's running, it may be critical to the operation of the device though.

Also if it's in the registry but not actually installed you'll get a similar error.

The same thing happens to all installed programs that I want to uninstall them...so it's impossible for the device to run them... I also see that resinfo does not run any of these processes...

I was thinking of registry editing too... but I don't know where the softwares information is located to remove it from the list...

Also the .unload file in each uninstall is pretty strange because none of these files are located in any directory of my storage and nand...

They may be hardcoded in ROM and impossible to remove. After all you weren't meant to see them.

so... are we going to use regedit?

First of all add some random registry entry somewhere in HKCU, then turn off the device completely (not reboot) for a few seconds, then restart and check whether it's still there.

If it isn't then there's no point continuing.

If it is I'll have to look up where it's stored.

I have excellent news fatboyfun...
I was experimenting with Regedit for a couple of minutes and I've finally found the key in registry that locates all the list.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/APPS/

This Key has many folders from installed apps inside, which means...a lot of junk!

I deleted them all... now the list is empty and the device is a bit cleaner

Anyway... I want to thank you fatboyfun... you are a great support!!!

That's great, but be advised though that editing the registry is dangerous and can lead to a device that won't boot with no way of fixing it.
