Burning .cdr files for RNS310

Postby EinPassatBitte » Fri Jun 03, 2011 9:08 pm

Hi All @ NaviTotal.com

I had troubles to burn some .cdr files (RNS 310 - Maps 2011 Version).

I tried to find help with some dummies frenchies at [Please Register or Login to download file] but it seems impossible if you're not a VW Golf GTI/R owner :-( Funny, I'm French myself & be sure I understand why sometimes we can appear so strange !!! :p Some should spend time learning English instead dealing with ****...

So, I took the decision to bypass those stupid guys & help myself...

My main goal was to burn those .cdr files using ROXIO Toast (I'm a Mac User) => Burnt CD's were not readable by my RNS310 GPS (VW Passat 2009).

So, I installed a Win XP Pro SP2, found an oldy version of WinCDR 5 (V5.0.51), burn a CD-RW media at 8X... and it worked fine using settings you will find attached to this post :-) I mean CD's were readable by the RNS310 GPS, I was able to copy from the CD's to the SD Card.

Feel free to send private message if relevant ;)

Et voilà !

Ciao

Thx, I will try that tonight ;-)

Additional question though. Can you copy from the CD straight to the SD card on the PC, or do you have to copy it through the car's gps-system?

Thanx in advance!

Hi,

No, I copied it trought the car's GPS-system. I believe that the car-system is performing a kind of encryption, and you can't use the SD card in a separate car.

Bye

@ EinPassatBitte,

I was reading your post about not being able to burn the .cdr files. I've got the same problem, but for me it's still not working.

I downloaded cdrwin5 and installed it on a windows xp machine, but i'm not able to mount the image files.

Also I'm not able to view your attachment on the forum.

Can you help?

Thanks in advance!!

Regards,

Thomas

Hi All,

Did everything listed and can burn the CDR image OK, using settings listed.

All seems OK. I can see the file structure OK and it looks similar to the original MAP CD.
Probelem is the RNS310 will not read the DVD. Tried recording on +R, / -R and re-recordable DVD's .
Always the same problem. Disc goes it, then after a while I see "Disk Error" on the RNS310 display.
The original DVD works every time so the RNS310 is OK.

I am trying get the latest maps for the UK.
Thought that the image was faulty, but tried another image for the UK and get the same problem.

Anyone got any suggestions ?

Thanks Ed

Ed,

You should not burn it onto a dvd, but on a normal CD (can be a CD-R or a CD-RW).

Hope this helps!

Thomas

Hi Thomas,

What an idiot I am!! Thinking of everything except the obvious. I just have not used CD's for ages and just presumed everything was now DVD based these days. How wrong I am.

I thank you very much Thomas, CD burnt and all fine now.

Best Regards Ed

Hi eddystone

Be aware not to try using those oldies items, they won't fit in your WV car :p

Reading the thread has anyone got a copy of V4 maps (UK & Ireland) for my RNS 310? In addition, are there any firmware updates for my system (2008) RNS 310?
